Grange Resources Limited, a subsidiary of Shagang Group, is headquartered in Burnie, Tasmania. The company has been in the mining business for over 56 years, and owns the only pellet plant in Australia and has two large magnetite projects.
Since 2008, Shagang Group has acquired control of Grange Resources Limited through capital operations. The company's key projects include the Savage River Project (in production) and the Southdown Project (under preparation).
Currently, the company mainly operates the integrated iron ore mining and pellet production business of the Savage River Project in northwestern Tasmania. The Savage River Project is a long-life mining asset: the project currently in production has approximately 468 million tonnes of mineral resources, including 100 million tonnes of ore reserves. The Definitive Feasibility Study of North Pit Underground Mine started in 2022, demonstrating the potential for a 6 million tons per annum production with the mining life of more than 10 years.
The Southdown Project, which is currently under preparation, is located near Albany in southern Western Australia (northeast of the city of Albany). It contains approximately 1.2 billion tons of high-quality mineral resources, including 388 million tons of ore reserves. The Definitive Feasibility Study report has been completed with an annual output of 5 million tons and the estimated mining life of 28 years.
