Dongbei Special Steel Group Co., Ltd (hereinafter referred to as DBSS) is located in the coastal city of Dalian, with its history traced back to 1905 and formerly known as Dongbei Special Steel Group. In 2017 DBSS underwent a mixed-ownership reform, with the actual controller, China’s largest private iron and steel enterprise, Shagang Group becoming its controlling shareholder, and DBSS was officially registered on Oct 12th, 2018.

Adhering to the development principles of green, low consumption, and low pollution, DBSS completed its comprehensive environmental relocation and transformation in 2011. The main equipment comes from the most advanced metallurgical equipment manufacturers at home and abroad. The technical performance of the products has reached the world’s leading level or replaced the standards of similar imported products. DBSS is a major production base for high-end special steel and premium die steel in China. In early 2025, DBSS successfully passed the ultra-low emission acceptance inspection. In 2026, DBSS was included in the first batch of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s list of Standard-compliant Enterprises in the steel industry.

As a national high-tech enterprise, DBSS adheres to the positioning of “Making Special Steel More Specialized, and Combining Premium Steel and Special Steel.” DBSS has 2 R&D platforms at provincial-level and above, i.e. a national enterprise technology center and the Dalian Municipal Engineering Laboratory for Special Alloy Steel. It has also established a postdoctoral research workstation, and its central laboratory has passed national laboratory accreditation, laying a solid foundation for its product research and development. The flagship product series, including spring steel, automotive steel, stainless steel, die steel, bearing steel, and precision alloys, have provided substantial quantities of new special steel materials for China’s major national projects such as Shenzhou spacecraft series, Chang’e lunar exploration program, Tiangong space laboratory, as well as projects of nuclear power, wind power, high-speed rail construction, domestic manufacturing of automobiles, and steel upgrades for oil exploration. DBSS holds significant technological influence and standard-setting leadership in the special steel sector.

The “Sanda” brand products of DBSS are sold throughout China and are renowned worldwide, with exports to over 30 countries and regions including the United States, Germany, Italy, Japan, and South Korea. DBSS has established deep cooperation with international enterprises such as Timken, ThyssenKrupp, Schaeffler, Bosch, United Automotive Electronic System, and Cummins. Several products, including railway bearing steel, steel for automotive injection systems, high-speed rail spring steel, screw and guide rail steel, and high-performance steel for petroleum drilling tools, are “Domestic Firsts” and lead the industry in technical parameters and product quality.
