The spirit of the 19th CPC National Congress has strengthened Shagang's confidence and determination for the coming rapid development. The report of the 19th CPC National Congress proposed to develop mixed ownership economy and cultivate world-class enterprises with global competitiveness, which pointed out the direction for Shagang's development. In 2017, Shagang actively responded to the call of implementing the reform of mixed ownership, and successfully restructured Dongbei Special Steel Group Co., Ltd. within only two years, Shagang brought this century state-owned enterprise back to the benign developing track by using Shagang's advanced management experience, which has also enabled Shagang to play an active role in high-tech fields such as the aviation and astronautics industries and national defense and military industries of China. At the same time, Shagang insisted on high starting point positioning, increased investment in safety and environmental protection undertakings, and accelerated the promotion of intelligent manufacturing, which elevated Shagang's development to a new level.

Since the 18th CPC National Congress, the Party Committee of Shagang has always uphold the concept of that “Proper Party building can make development more stable”, and immersed Party building work into all aspects of enterprise development, thus forming Four Party building characteristics in a non-public enterprise which stand with “Foundation, System, Platform and Innovation”. Shagang's Party Committee insisted on the principle of Where the Department is Built, a Party Branch is set, which realized 100% full coverage of grass-roots party organizations, 100% departments or plants directors being responsible for both party organization and administration work, 100% role overlap of the Party cadres and administrative directors, and built up a strong bastion of grass-roots party organizations. At present, Shagang's Party Committee has 5 subordinates, 53 Party general branches, 216 Party branches and more than 5,000 Party members, forming a Party organization structure with a combination of lines and blocks and role overlap integration.

Since the 18th CPC National Congress, Shagang has insisted on innovation oriented path and increased scientific research, thus producing new products, new processes and new technologies to meet different levels of market demand, launching a number of high-quality products that no one else can produce or can surpass.

 

On process innovation, Shagang introduced China’s First and World’s fourth CASTRIP Producing Line ,we has built it into the most advanced CASTRIP production line with best performance in the world by our specialized independent innovation, breaking through the annual 500,000 tons of design capacity and achieving mass production of gauge 0.75mm. Based on the experience of this production line, Shagang is now stepping up the construction and preparation of the Second and Third phases of the CASTRIP projects to further optimize product structure and grades. Shagang’s innovative implementation of the third-generation pretreatment technology for hot metal “Three Removal” - Dephosphorization, Desulfurization and Desiliconization, and the utilization of “Combination of RIF Furnace - VOD Decarburization Furnace Process”, will significantly improve the purity of the BOF steel liquid, thus achieving a 50% reduction of slag and 30% energy saving.

 

In the aspect of product quality improving, Shagang's independent research and development of 600 mpa high-strength seismic rebar achieved the domestic initiative, reached the international advanced level; The strength of steel used for bridge cables has been raised from 1,670 mpa to 2,300 mpa, the highest level in the world. Resource-saving long-life corrosion-resistant rebar HRB400M for marine engineering has filled the international gaps in the field; it helps extend the service life of reinforced concrete structure corrosion in the Marine environment. The pipeline steel has achieved a breakthrough in ultra-thin grade, filling the gaps of this field in China. The pipeline steel products of Shagang have always been in the first echelon in China and won the award of “National Single Champion Product”; products such as SGLX82ACr - the tie cord steel with Cr, and the tool steel 50BV30-ST are both domestic initiative. The market share of non-oriented silicon steel and electroplated tin plate is the first in the province.

 

Over the past ten years, Shagang’s high-quality steel products have been widely used in the fields of national economy and people’s livelihood, such as oil pipelines, railway bridges, marine engineering, etc. With a cumulative supply of more than 400,000 tons of high-quality bridge steel products, which have been used in national key projects, such as Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong Yangtze River Bridge, the Chongqing-Guizhou Railway Wujiang Bridge, the Pingtan Strait Bridge, Wufengshan Yangtze River Bridge, Bianyuzhou Yangtze River Bridge, Chaohu-Ma’anshan Intercity Railway, and have won unanimous praise from customers and construction enterprises. Shagang has won the honorary title of excellent supplier of many customers, and has provided 60,000 tons of high-performance bridge structure steel in total for the Belt and Road Initiative projects such as the Peljesac Bridge in Croatia, the Bangladesh University BRAC University Town, and the Padma Bridge in Bangladesh and other "One Belt One Road" projects etc.

 

In the field of pipeline construction, Shagang provides 112,500 tons of high-quality X80 pipeline steel plate for the China-Russia East Route natural gas pipeline. In the past five years, Shagang has supplied more than 2 million tons of steel plate for key domestic and foreign pipeline projects such as Central Asia Pipeline, China-Myanmar Pipeline and second and third line of West-east gas transmission. Shagang is the first manufacturer to complete the thousand-ton unit of steel plate for X80 anti-large deformation pipeline used in strain-based design areas in China.

 

Moreover, Shagang’s total production and export of high quality wire rod has ranked first in China for years, and the high quality wire rod has been successfully used in national key projects such as Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong Yangtze River Bridge, Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong Railway, Lianyungang-Zhenjiang Railway and Zhuankou Yangtze River Bridge.

 

Always stay true on perseverance, new breakthroughs in eco-developing and low-carbon promoting

 

The 18th CPC National Congress has incorporated the construction of ecological civilization into the overall layout of “the Five-Sphere Integrated Plan”. Over the past ten years, Shagang has been directed by Xi Jinping Thought on ecological civilization, practiced the protection strategy of Yangtze River, resolutely won the battle against pollution and blue sky defense, unswervingly implemented the developing strategy of “Building a High-quality Steel Base and a Green Steel City”, and put forward the slogan of “Striving to be the pioneer of green development in metallurgical industry” resoundingly. The environmental protection level of enterprises has been continuously improved.

 

Eco-developing and low-carbon promoting need investment. In recent years, Shagang has input more than 30 billion RMB to implement a series of technical improvement projects in water, gas, noise and slag control. In 2018, focusing on green and low-carbon development, Shagang sorted out 171 projects, built coke oven desulfurization and denitration, sintering desulfurization and denitration, #2 and #3 C-shaped yards, the upgrading of coking wastewater in Phase I and Phase IV, and 150,000 tons of reclaimed water reuse project, which fully met the national ultra-low emission requirements, and achieved a win-win situation for both ecological and economic benefits.

 

Shagang’s projects on green and low-carbon development are based on high standards. After putting 5 desulfurization and denitration devices into operation, Shagang has installed a first standby dedusting system in coking process in China, which not only enhanced “double insurance” to emission reduction, but also frees up time for maintenance and repair of environmental protection facilities, and meeting the ultra-low emission requirements as well; the world's largest demonstration project for the treatment and utilization of iron-bearing dust by rotary hearth furnace was built to solve the difficulties of recycling and utilization of solid waste resources in the metallurgical industry, it’s a successful precedent in China. The self-generated & self-used distributed photovoltaic power plant of 54MW can provided 1.26 billion KWH of green electricity and thus can reduce 860,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions during the whole life cycle. The China’s largest solid waste environmental protection project with annual treatment capacity of 3.3 million tons has achieved 100% comprehensive utilization of slag; Nearly 300 million RMB has been invested in vehicle replacement and upgrading, new and clean energy driven vehicles such as electrical and LNG are promoted in logistics transport vehicles gradually. In 2015, Shagang took the lead in enabling of intelligent shore power in the whole Suzhou City; In 2021, Shagang invested 40 million RMB in building 10 sets of low voltage variable frequency shore power station, realizing the full coverage of all wharves shore power along the Yangtze River. In 2021, Shagang introduced 180MW “Gas-steam Combined Cycle Power Plant(CCPP)” comprehensive utilization of efficient resources generating set, which will increase the power generation efficiency by more than 60%, save 164,500 tons of standard coal annually, and the gas consumption index of power generation has reached the industry advanced level. Over the past ten years, Shagang has carried forward the “Five Major Recycling and Utilization Projects” continuously; more than 98% resources have been deeply recycled and utilized, really turning waste into treasure. It has realized steam resource sharing with more than 70 social enterprises, and the annual benefits generated by circular economy have reached more than 10% of Shagang’s total benefits

 

Green and low-carbon development should focus on long-term control. Shagang has created a steel Wisdom environmental protection control platform to monitor 82 sets of online environmental monitoring sites 24 hours a day to ensure that environmental indicators are always under control. Meanwhile, Shagang carried out grid based environmental protection management; formed institution, established systems, strengthened assessment, implemented publicity, and promoted environmental protection work with high standards. In addition, based on the 10-kilometer green corridor along the Yangtze River, Shagang has built a “Garden-style Factory” with high level design and multiple tree species matching. The green area reaches 2.15 million square meters, creating a beautiful factory environment with “Flowers in spring, Shade in summer, Fruit in autumn and Green in winter”.

 

Always stay true on Ingenuity; new chapter is going to be created by intelligent manufacturing

 

Over the past ten years, Shagang has adhered to the principle of “Overall Planning, Implementation by step, Fan out from point to area, Benefit driven”, continued to promote the optimization and integration of all links and corresponding systems in the whole life cycle of steel products, manufacturing and services, integrated intelligent manufacturing into the whole process of steel production, and achieved a great leap from “conventional manufacturing” to “intelligent manufacturing”.

 

In 2011, Shagang started the project of "Robots Replace Manpower", and more than 300 robots or intelligent devices have been installed, such as automatic mold power injecting devices, automatic marking machines and automatic sampling devices, etc; In 2020, Shagang proposed the Five-year plan of intelligent manufacturing, which will promote intelligent manufacturing to the level of enterprise development strategy and support the high-quality development process. At present, Shagang has built one national intelligent demonstration production base, seven provincial intelligent demonstration workshops, one Suzhou municipal intelligent plant, seven Suzhou municipal intelligent demonstration workshops and five Zhangjiagang municipal intelligent demonstration workshops.

 

Shagang took three years to build the national intelligent manufacturing project of “Integrated Process Intelligent Manufacturing New Mode Application Project of High-end Wire Rod”, and built the first high-end wire rod intelligent manufacturing demonstration base in China. Since run the project, the production efficiency has increased by 31.5%, the operation cost has reduced by 23.2%, the product development cycle has shortened by 35.4%, the product rejected rate has reduced by 26.8%, and the energy consumption of output value per unit has reduced by 19.7%. The steel production process is volatile, in order to control and utilize thousands of equipment and utilities, centralized management and control are needed which was operated by software. In recent years, Shagang has built production scheduling centers, power, coking, cold rolling, Haili, Iron making preparing process and other centralized control centers by focusing on the construction of digital control centers at the company and branch plants levels, constantly promoting the transformation of the enterprise to digital production, centralized operation and intelligent control.

 

On this basis, Shagang actively uses big data technology to explore the effective application of data and generate higher value. Among that, the IDSS (Intelligent Decision Support System) uses the data platform to achieve data integration and effective analysis and statistics, providing data support for effective decision-making at all levels; The group's “Human”, “Financial” and “Material” digital  control platform focuses on improving the breadth and depth of the group's business digitization, realizing comprehensive online business and collaborative supply chain business between upstream and downstream enterprises, forming a common development ecosystem; The whole process quality control analysis system realizes quality prediction, rapid positioning of quality defects and whole process traceability, which greatly improves the production quality level; The digital diagnosis system of blast furnace has realized the transformation from experience judgment mode to data-supported decision-making judgment. The application of “Big Data, Artificial Intelligence” and other technologies constantly promote Shagang to be more intelligent.

 

Ten years is a fleeting moment in the long history; but for Shagang it was a decade for striving and leapfrog development.
